Now here’s a step-by-step guide to create your account:

Step 1: Visit login.gov to create your account

Once you click this link in the email you will be asked to create a strong password:

Step 3: Select your first method of authentication

Choose your primary authentication method: you may probably want to use text or voice message:

Now you can go on to add a second method as a backup.

Step 4: visit usajobs.gov to create your profile

Next, visit usajobs.gov and either create a new profile with the same email you just used at login.gov or link your existing profile. Click on the “sign in” button you see at the top (marked with red arrows):

Step 5: Connect login.gov account with usajobs.gov

You will be shown this screen to confirm whether to link your account. Confirm your email address (it should be the one you just used at login.gov). Then click on ‘Agree and continue’:

Step 6: Create your profile on usajobs.gov

Now your account at usajobs.gov has been created. Now it’s time to create your profile so you can submit applications for the jobs.

Step 7: Complete your profile

Add all the information to your profile so that employers can search for your profile. Include all the information you need to apply to a federal job like your name, address, education, hiring paths, etc.

Remember, it’s important to create a profile, because this information is used to improve your job search results and help you fill your job application. Once you have a profile, you will be shown the following screen and you can also upload resumes; and save jobs and job searches.

Step 8: upload or create your resume

You can upload documents (size up to 5MB) in one of the following formats: GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, RTF, TXT, PDF or Word (DOC or DOCX).

However, I highly recommend you upload your resume in PDF or Word format to make it searchable.

  • Only Word documents like text-based pdfs, Word files, and resumes created using ‘The Resume Builder tool’ are searchable.
  • If your profile is complete, your profile will also be searchable.
  • When you find a job, you can also create and apply with a custom resume to boost your chances of success

Once your profile is complete you can start the job search process. You can use keywords and location-based parameters to search.
